Not all ideas are business ideas, and as we know, not all business ideas succeed. What lies at the foundation of a successful entrepreneurial project? Execution<\/strong>\u2014the transformation of vision into strategy, and strategy into an actionable plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next step involves developing a financial and economic plan<\/strong> and measuring results<\/strong>. Without economic sustainability, there\u2019s no long-term business continuity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Strategic Map with the Balanced Scorecard<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The activities needed to achieve business objectives go through a set of operational actions, identified through a strategic map<\/strong>. This process is made possible by a well-established strategic and management tool used globally: the Balanced Scorecard<\/strong>. It offers significant advantages, even for startups, as outlined below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Balanced Scorecard is both a strategic and operational map<\/strong>, based on four interdependent perspectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Customer<\/strong>: How do our customers perceive us? For example\u2014delivery times, satisfaction levels, loyalty rate, and new customer acquisition rate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Process<\/strong>: What do we need to excel at? This includes internal efficiency, productivity, and the quality of service delivered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Learning and Innovation<\/strong>: How do we train our capacity to change and improve? Indicators include the development cycle time for new products or technologies, human capital development, and corporate culture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Financial Measures<\/strong>: How do investors perceive us? Examples include the company\u2019s financial performance, revenue, profitability, and liquidity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    How to Implement It<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    To implement the Balanced Scorecard, there are seven key steps<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Define the vision<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Set the strategy<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Create the strategic map<\/strong> (with the four perspectives listed above)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      For each perspective in the strategic map:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Choose the metric to measure it<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Analyze the results<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Create action plans<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      4. Manage and improve<\/strong> the scorecard<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        In startups\u2014where fast development and uncertainty outweigh long-term vision\u2014it\u2019s possible to adopt a lighter approach<\/strong>: strategic goals and metrics can initially be defined only for the dimensions where performance can be effectively measured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        The benefits of the scorecard are many, even for those launching a startup. It provides the entire team with a clear business direction<\/strong>, highlights the areas most in need of focus<\/strong>, and supports funding requests<\/strong>, as it facilitates the development of structured, clear, and comprehensive business plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
