New public funds dedicated to women who want to start their own businesses, specialized courses on female entrepreneurship, and mentoring programs are becoming more and more common. Finally, one might say!
The World Economic Forum claims it will take “135 years to close the gender gap”. Every one of us should be concerned about this statistic.
According to the United Nations, women’s economic empowerment is the most direct path to gender equality, and entrepreneurship is the most effective way to achieve economic freedom. This is why Huky has become a benefit corporation: to support female entrepreneurship.

The Current Landscape
However, it’s important to note that this path is not easy. Women remain underrepresented in the entrepreneurial ecosystem and still face the same glass ceiling found in the corporate world. Women make up 52% of the European population, but only 34.4% of self-employed workers and just 30% of start-up founders.
According to the European Commission, the four main reasons for this underrepresentation are: lack of funding, lack of training, lack of networking, and lack of role models.
The European Parliament states that women represent the most valuable and largest untapped source of entrepreneurial and leadership potential in Europe. Supporting female entrepreneurs and self-employed women would strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and help create new jobs.
EU reports highlight a very interesting statistic: increasing the number of women in the digital labor market would boost the EU’s GDP by €16 billion.
This makes it clear that improving gender equality and supporting female entrepreneurship are key factors for accelerating and strengthening Europe’s post-pandemic recovery.
Educational Paths: Why Choose RestartHer
It’s in response to this data—and the desire to build something positive for a more equitable society—that we decided to launch the RestartHer women’s entrepreneurship training course, for women with a business project to realize.
This course teaches how to turn an idea into a real business, through an on-demand training program that helps validate the assumptions behind a business idea and prepare to launch.
It is designed for women who:
- Lost their job during the pandemic and want to become self-employed
- Resigned for family reasons and want to restart with a business idea
- Want to change careers by starting their own venture
- Have a project but don’t know where to begin or whether it could be profitable
The strength of this course lies in its agile learning methodology, which combines traditional business strategy with the design thinking approach.
